Blog Post Day 6: Second Day of Presentations

Presentation Day 2:

1.         ABC Island

c. I learned a little bit about the history behind the island, and the beauty of the island.

d. I actually did not get much at all from this presentation. I feel as if no research was actually done, just a lot of quick work, and copied a video. I want to know about the islands, however little information was given.

e. The video was probably the best thing, because it told more about the ABC islands.

f. Honestly, the video was more entertaining and informational than his actual PowerPoint.

g. Loved the video!

2.         St. Kitts and Newis

c. I learned that there is a big diverse culture if music, dance, and art.

d. What are examples of history of each island?

e. I liked the colors and images which were put into the PowerPoint.

f. I wish that more examples were given in the informational section of the presentation.

g. Good work overall!

3.         Jamaica

c. I learned how Jamaica got its name from the beginning, which I absolutely loved. I didn’t even think to do that! It’s a very great start!

d. My only question that I had, was why didn’t you show more on the island in total? Only the tourist area was shown, and the features that it provided as entertainment.

e. I loved the images, and colors which were in the presentation. I also loved that there was information about the kind of culture that they had.

f. I wish that a little more history was given about the island itself, such as how the people got there, who colonized the island first, and so on.

g. Great work!!

Blog Post Five: First Day of Presentations

In this post, I have written down a little bit of information about a few Islands which were presented.

Day One:

1.         Barbados.

c. there are strong English influences. The Ameridians originally occupied the islands. Evidence of this was found and dated back by 2,000 years.

d. In today’s society, is the island family friendly?

e. She had a LOT of factual information, which worked for her, because it looked like she was comfortable with it.

f. She should have not put so many facts in it, because it got very boring very quickly.

g. There was a lot of writing, and I wish that more information about the island was presented, rather than the history. A lot of the class got lost as she was presenting.

h.

2.         Haiti

c. Haiti struggles with history, geography, economy, population religion and government.

d. Is Haiti the poorest country in the Caribbean? What happened with the corruption after the earthquake?

e. Although this was also factual, she presented captivating images which brought the audience in to her topic and presentation.

f. She said “um” a lot, which slowed her presentation down.

g. I liked the images, they were powerful.

h.

3. British Virgin Islands

c.  Holidays are special to them and have meaning.

d. I would have liked to know how festivals represent their country, not just about festivals in general.

e. She had good images which helped bring in the audience.

f. She should blankly say things, she needs to go into details with examples.

g. The images were great!

h.

4. Anguilla

c. I learned how the history effected its culture and how food and music are very important to Anguilla, and how the primary income is luxury tourism.

d. Everything was actually accounted for; all my questions were answered.

e. There was music, images, and good facts. Everything was well put together.

f. He should have split the paragraphs a little bit more.

g. It was really good over all!!

Blog Post Four:

In this Blog post, I will be discussing what worked and did not work for presentations in class.

In general, the presentation proposals were great. In most cases, there was a lot of information for the island, and most related back to their topic or research question. However, there were some that did not. It is important to relate back to the research questions, seeing as we are trying to convince the audience of the research question.

With design, there were some that did not work. When putting together a PowerPoint, or choosing a theme with colors, you want to make sure that you don't go overboard on some colors, making it unappealing to the eye. Some fell into this category, while most did not.
Information wise, most presenters did very well, and I believe really put heart into their final result.

Overall, I loved the presentations and learned a lot about the individual islands.
